Autonomous driving
technology

Developing next generation technology for

Autonomous
Vehicles

An autonomous vehicle is a vehicle that can sense its surroundings and operate without the need for human intervention.

At no point is a human passenger required to assume control of the car, nor is a human passenger needed to be present in the vehicle at all.

A fully autonomous vehicle can go anywhere a traditional car can and accomplish everything an experienced human driver can do. Without human intervention, it learns, collaborates, and interacts with the world the same way humans do.

Breaking down autonomous technology

Levels of
Automation

There are six different levels of automation, and as the levels progress, the driverless car's autonomy in terms of operation control increases.

Level 0

No
Automation

The car has no control over its operation, and all driving is performed by a human.

Level 1

Assisted
Driving Automation

The advanced driver assistance system (ADAS) in the car can assist the driver with steering, acceleration, and braking.

Level 2

Partial
Automation

The ADAS can handle steering, acceleration, and braking, but the human driver must retain undivided attention to the driving environment during the journey while also performing the remaining functions.

Level 3

Conditional
Automation

The ADAS can perform all aspects of the driving task in some cases, but the human driver must be able to regain control when the ADAS requests it. In the remaining cases, the human driver performs the required tasks.

Level 4

High
Automation

The vehicle's ADAS is capable of performing all driving responsibilities independently, in certain circumstances where human attention is not required,

Level 5

Full
Automation

This involves complete automation, in which the vehicle's ADAS is capable of doing all functions in all conditions, and no human driver assistance is required. The use of 5G technology will enable full automation by allowing vehicles to communicate not just with one another but also with traffic lights, signage, as well as the roads.

What are the benefits of

Autonomous Vehicles?

  • Improved safety: 92% of accidents are caused by human error
  • Improved transport interconnectivity
  • Reduced pollution: Reducing transport energy consumption by up to 85%
  • Greater mobility options: For elderly, young, and disabled users
  • Greater convenience, efficiency, and reliability
  • Reduced costs
